First Adoption Event on Campus Oct. 13

WOOF is all you will be hearing Tuesday morning at Tate Plaza!!

Who? Athens Clarke County Animal Control and Forgotten Friends will have dogs available for adoption on campus

What? Animal Adoption Days are meant to encourage people to adopt and increase awareness of rescue organizations to students, faculty and staff who may currently purchase their pets from breeders and pet stores. The Animal Adoption Days are hopefully going to be a permanent fixture on UGA campus the second Tuesday of every month.

When? Tuesday, October 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Where? Tate Plaza!

Why? “I don’t think people realize when they go pick out a cute little puppy from Petland or a breeder they are essentially taking away a home from a stray animal,” says Lauren Miller, President of Forgotten Friends, “We really just want to open people’s eyes to adoption.”

Forgotten Friends hopes everyone will seriously consider adopting from a shelter when they seek their next pet after meeting these delightful animals.

Hey Guys!

Sorry our blog updates have been fairly absent lately, but hopefully everyone had an amazing summer and is geared up for week 2 of school! So, since it is time to get involved, and get back to meeting and planning AMAZING events we have in mind, here are some things to know:

  • FIRST FORGOTTEN FRIENDS MEETING: SEPTEMBER 10th at 7pm. We aren’t sure exactly what room yet, but we are trying to snag an SLC (MLC) or Tate room so that it’s easier for everyone to make the meetings, especially if you’re coming from a dorm! So jot down that date and come to the meeting! Whether you were involved last year or love animals and want to get into a cool organization, come out!
  • Meetings will happen every other week, starting September 10th.
  • We have a lot of awesome events in mind for this semester, such as: Monthly adoption days ON CAMPUS!, speakers for meetings, pledge to adopt, and volunteering for Grace’s Birthday party (Sept. 20th)

This semester is going to be awesome and Forgotten Friends is going to be more involved than ever, so be sure to come out and be a part of everything! We’ll be sending out an email from the listserv before and after the meeting(s), so make sure to email us at ugaforgottenfriends@gmail.com to be added to the listserv!

We  look forward to seeing everyone!

Michael Vick dog visits UGA campus

Forgotten Friends is excited to announce our upcoming Love-a-bull event. On Thursday, April 9, from 11-3 the Georgia SPCA (located in Suwanee) will have pit bulls available to play with and adopt! We are inviting everyone to stop by, make a friend, and learn about this amazing breed. The event will take place at the Tate Lawn.

Not only will we have sweet and friendly pit bulls available for adoption, but we will also have a special appearance by Chuckie, a former Michael Vick pit bull. Chuckie has been rehabilitated and is now in a loving home. He will be visiting as an ambassador for the breed and an example that pit bulls can be rehabilitated.

Pledge and paper!

We are having a Spay/Neuter and Adoption Pledge at Tate plaza March 2nd 11-3. Please come out and buy cat toys and dog biscuits. We will have two cute dogs for people to pet and attract attention. If anyone has a dog up for adoption we would love you to bring them. I have a pen, currently we are just going to have two owned dogs, but still very cute. We will be asking people to Pledge and sign to adopt animals and not buy from puppy stores or breeders and say and neuter their animals. we have tons of info on where and why this can be done. Hope to see many of you there!

Also if you didn’t see we were in the paper today, please read!

Upcoming Events

Currently we are helping transport animals to and from the low cost spay and neuter center for free. We really want to get the word out about this. We already have 4 transports set up and hope to have more. If you would like flyers to hand out please contact us. We are aiming for those who ride buses or do not have cars. This means handing out flyers on a weekend at Kroger or Wal-mart would be ideal. If anyone is interested in putting together a flyering day we would love that. Spring is just around the corner and we DO NOT want anymore litters.

Also we would like to have group outing in March after spring break. It will likely be March 20th (Friday). We can go to a movie, out to dinner, or visit Bear Hollow Zoo. Be thinking about it and let us know at the next meeting.

Wednesday March 4th (not February 25th as previously stated) we will be teaming with Campus Cats to hold a Spay and Neuter Pledge. This will be at Tate. We will be asking people to sign a pledge to fix their animals or help educate one person in their life. We will have materials as to why and where this can be done. Please mark this on your calendar and plan to come help educate. We are also hoping to have a few dogs there.

Lastly a Pit Bull Awareness Day is coming in April… more details soon.
